Abstract

Despite several hypotheses concerning the pathogenesis of transient global amnesia (TGA) including cerebrovascular disease, migraine, epileptic seizure, venous congestion and psychological disturbance, there is no consensus about the cause. We describe 2 patients and reported 32 cases with TGA associated with cerebrovascular disease to suggest that TGA is caused by cerebrovascular lesion of the memory related structures. The first patient experienced TGA following left hippocampal infarction diagnosed diffuse weighted imaging on the brain MR study and the second patient suffered TGA following acute hemorrhage at the left cingulated gyrus. According to the review of our patients and reported 32 cases, we could suggest that TGA pathogenesis may be more directly affected by cerebrovascular disease than other proposed causes.
